Job Description

Laboratory Technician

Los Angeles, CA

About the Company

General Matter is enriching uranium in America. Our goal is to design, build, and operate the world's lowest-cost enrichment services in the United States. Our mission is to restore America's ability to produce nuclear fuel—fuel that will power AI, advanced manufacturing, critical industries, and the next generation of nuclear reactors. Ultimately, our work will help power national ambitions and enable a high-energy society. We were incubated by Founders Fund, like Anduril and Palantir before us, and are backed by top-tier investors. Our lean, world-class team of engineers and operators is applying a first-principles approach to solving the problem of nuclear fuel production. We are a mission-driven company with a culture of urgency, accountability, and transparency. Help us build a high-energy society by making the cleanest, safest form of baseload energy the most affordable.

About This Role

As a Laboratory Technician at General Matter, you will provide critical hands-on support to our Chemistry team as we scale uranium enrichment operations. You'll work in a highly regulated laboratory environment, performing sample preparation, equipment maintenance, and quality assurance activities that directly support our R&D testing and product certification efforts. This is an excellent opportunity for early-career professionals to gain practical experience in analytical chemistry and nuclear materials handling while contributing to a mission of national importance. You'll work alongside experienced chemists and scientists in a fast-paced, safety-first environment where precision, attention to detail, and rigorous documentation are essential. If you're looking to build your career in a high-impact field and are excited by the opportunity to support the nuclear Renaissance, we encourage you to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare samples and reagents for analytical testing and quality control analysis.
  • Operate, maintain, and calibrate laboratory equipment and instrumentation to ensure accuracy and reliability.
  • Perform routine laboratory testing and measurements in support of R&D and product QA activities.
  • Document experimental procedures, observations, and results in compliance with regulatory and quality standards.
  • Maintain laboratory inventory, including chemicals, supplies, and consumables.
  • Follow strict safety, security, and compliance protocols for handling nuclear materials and working in a regulated environment.
  • Support laboratory organization, cleanliness, and adherence to good laboratory practices (GLP).
  • Collaborate with chemists, scientists, and operations staff to meet testing and production schedules.
  • Assist with method validation, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement initiatives as needed.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related scientific field; or equivalent experience.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) precisely.
  • Demonstrated laboratory skills through coursework, research experience, internships, or co-ops.
  • Excellent organizational and documentation skills.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required security clearance and access authorization for work with nuclear materials.
  • Willingness to work in a highly regulated, safety-conscious laboratory environment.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • 0-4 years of laboratory experience in an analytical, QC, or research laboratory setting.
  • Familiarity with analytical chemistry techniques (e.g., titration, spectroscopy, chromatography, mass spectrometry).
  • Experience working with hazardous materials, nuclear materials, or in regulated environments (GMP, GLP, DOE, NRC).
  • Prior exposure to uranium hexafluoride (UF6), hydrogen fluoride (HF), or other corrosive/reactive chemicals.
  • Experience in fast-paced or startup environments where flexibility and problem-solving are valued.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team setting.

Additional Requirements

  • Ability to work extended hours and weekends as necessary.
