Abrasive BlasterHutco, Inc. is seeking experienced Abrasive Blasters for work at Newport News Shipbuilding. Candidates must have a minimum of three years of experience using high-pressure blast equipment and be capable of working safely in physically demanding shipyard environments.This position is for Abrasive Blasters and is not a Blast Machine Equipment Operator (BMEO) or Ultra-High Pressure Water Blaster position.The pay is based on experience and qualifications and is up to $40.97 per hour plus pier diem for those who qualify.The job location is Newport News, Virginia, with the Hutco branch in Portsmouth, Virginia. The shift is all shifts.The position is for Abrasive Blasters and is not a Blast Machine Equipment Operator (BMEO) or Ultra-High Pressure Water Blaster position.Required experience and qualifications include:Minimum three years of experience using high-pressure blast equipmentExperience working in a physically demanding environmentExperience working in confined spacesExperience working at heightsExperience using a blaster air-fed helmet and/or soft-hood air-fed respiratorExperience using a negative-pressure half-face respiratorMust be physically capable of entering and moving through manways and tank openingsMust be a United States CitizenNo professional certification is required for the positionRequired safety training and qualifications include:Confined Space Entry trainingHazard Communication trainingInorganic Arsenic training and medical qualificationCrystalline Silica training and medical qualificationRespirator medical clearance, training, qualification, and applicable fit testingTraining and qualification for applicable air-fed blasting helmets/respirators and negative-pressure respiratorsFall Protection / Full Body Harness training and qualificationPersonal Protective Equipment (PPE) trainingHearing protection trainingAudiometric testingAbility to use required eye, head, hearing, hand, knee, respiratory, and fall-protection equipmentDaily respirator use may be required.Physical and work environment requirements include:Work in confined spaces and tanksWork at heightsEnter and move through restricted manway and tank openingsWear required respiratory and protective equipment for extended periodsWork in varying temperature and humidity conditionsSafely perform abrasive blasting operations while wearing all required PPEA limited benefit plan is available to Hutco, Inc. employees through Essential Staff Care.
